OK im sure you did this before doing what i suggested above lol

1. Click the vista start orb
2. Click Control Panel
3. Click Folder Options
4. Click the View tab
5. Click Show hidden files and folders
7. Click OK

If your still unable to reinstall then go to the vista start orb and in the search bar type regedit then hit enter. Then click on Edit then Find and in the search bar type MSNMessenger and then click find next. Delete what it finds then press F3 to find the next one and delete it and so on untill it finds no entries.

Then repeat the procedure above but look for Windows Live then reboot.
