Yeh, I tried them all out, and none of them worked.
In the end I had to use the repair mode on the setup disc and restore the
system to a restore point. This seemed to work.
I believe the error came from trying to connect a video camera to the system
yesterday using a firewire card, I had multiple errors when trying to
connect. But I restarted my computer since then and didn't have the
problem.... it still remains a mystery.
