Windows 98, that's pretty old and I do not remember how good it was at
networking...

Then it is hard, because your problem seems to be the networking part
and here we need to know:
A) How is the host networked?
B) What is the network setup in the guest settings in VPC2007
C) How did you configure networking in the guest
