Ok, good to see you got past the networking issues. You might be
hitting the Vista/non-Vista sharing issue.
Is your printer setup on a public or private network on Vista? Here's
a guide for sharing a Vista printer.
File and Printer Sharing in Windows Vista
just run throught the printer part and make sure you're set up the
same way (same workgroup), network is set to private, and so on.

Interesting you should say that. Lately it seems to switch back to public. The workgroups match.
I was wrong. The password protects networking.
This is what happens when I double click the host computer in networking from my vpc.
-The dialogue box doesn't give me an option to enter user name, only password.
-The resource looks like the host and when I type the password for that computer, I get the message that it's wrong.
I have the same password for both.
It also happens if I try to go "add a printer" from vpc--network--where-- I double-click the icon for the host and get the same "network password required" box.
You've been a great help.
