Re: Adding privileges to an account

Hello Nigel,

Are you some kind of magician?

I know you won't believe me, but I swear: I tried to run Daphne as Administrator at least 100 times up till now, and I always got that boring request to provide "Debug programs" privilege.

But this time, when YOU told me to try Run As Administrator - it did the job. I really can't figure out what happened in the meantime (and, to tell the truth, I am not much willing to investigate any more - I might spoil something), but the fact is - I have Daphne working properly now, and it is owing to you.

OK. Now I have Daphne fixed. But I am still curious how can we, who use Home editions of Vista and XP, assign privileges to our accounts (as we don't have SECPOL.MSC nor GPEDIT.MSC tools)?

This problem really embarrasses me.
So, please, do some more magic and give me the right answer. Or, at least, give me some links where to look...

Thank you very much for your help.

Kindest regards, Conficker

It may be that the debug rights you need are only available in an elevated state for a normal admin account ( the Administrator runs in this state at all times so would not give this error)

Two things to try

Right click on the Daphne.exe program and choose "run as administrator" rather than just running the program normally.

If that solves your problem then...

Right click on the Daphne.exe file and set the compatibility mode to "run this program as administrator" this will ensure that the change i set perminently.

You may find that you receive UAC prompts when starting the program using any of the above - this is to be expected, simply ok the prompt and supply password if prompted
