Cannot install x64 SP2--Get BSOD on reboot

I cannot install Vista SP2 on my Home Premium x64 system. I disabled my antivirus and spyware software. I started installing and got to step 3 of the installation. When it rebooted, I get the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD). I have uninstalled the antivirus and spyware software and get the same result when I try to update Vista to SP2. I have tried using the Windows Update version as well as the stand alone downloaded updater. Same result. I have even tried doing a selective startup with "load startup items" unchecked and ALL non-MSFT services disabled. Same result. I have consulted the list of offending programs and do not believe I have any that don't live happily with SP2. I am now totally at a loss and welcome new ideas. BTW, I have tried to boot up after the BSOD to see if the computer would work, but I get the BSOD again, so the problem is truely fatal. Fortunately Startup repair has always brought me back to an operable state once again. Please help! Thank you in advance!
