Windows Servers sometimes have problems joining domains if the server is already part of a domain and all you want to do is change the name of the server. It will give you a message that the user name is not found. The best way to change the name of the server (that is part of a domain) is log in locally as administrator and change the server to a workgroup. Reboot. Then log in locally again and change the server to the domain with the name you want. This will work. If that doesnt work, then check to see if the server can ping the domain controller and that the dns address is correct.
