Hi,
Well I know for a fact that they are extremely paranoid of transferring credentials from
Messenger to Internet Explorer (to automatically sign you in for Hotmail) so it's possible it
requires a whole new session to do that.
However, for the links within a conversation window that people are sending to you (not
including other elements of Messenger, like what's new feeds, etc.), should open in a new tab
in Internet Explorer (with IE8, WLM 2009 and Win7).
