I never "invoke the program" but simply click (double click) on the archived file and WinRAR "self-starts" and opens a view that lets me see what is in the archive.

When I do archive files (rare in these days of giant hard drives), I have always placed copies of the files I want to archive in my C:\temp directory and point Win RAR to there.

I know this probably is not of much help, but perhaps if you try just double clicking on the archived (zipped) file, it might "self-start" for you...

First of all, thank you for replying.

About that "double clicking": it starts all right, but I have no use of that file after opening it. This is where winRAR and OriginPro 8 problems intercept. When I tryed to open a compressed .opj file (Origin graph, and it was sent to me to make some changes) I could work in it, change it or whatever but when I tryed to save that file (in a different folder, with a different name) it said "Cannot open file xy.opj for saving. File is in use or read only"

And what am I supposed to do now? Send that file to friends who still have Windows xp to extract it and send it back?!

I think I'll try that 7zip program.

But what if it doesn't work? Could it be a virus? Btw I have NOD32 and
Spybot SD and have found nothing while scanning the computer.... But still?!
My computer is kind of slow when running some programs (but should it be with 4 Gb of RAM?!) and there have been some disorders in sound when starting computer, also mouse pointer flickers occasionally...
