You are absolutely right
after the fact, when I did not hear from you, I contacted Sony Vaio support for help and they fixed the issue for me in like 2 minutes by remote access and then said something like what you said above that something was already installed on my machine and said that the windows installer 3.1 was for xp users also. And they were able to set up my tv on pc software. So everything worked out thanks to sony vaio support. But you were helpful a little also. Thanks for your help
