what new update? windows?
just uninstall yuor gpu drivers , reboot so vista installs its generic ones then try again , it might help
if your problem is your trying to install new Nvidia drivers then just give up , that card is notorious for being a dog , the driver supporet was always shocking for it , so pick some drivers that work and stick with em
