If you decide to download and reinstall IE 8 as Brink suggested, you should download the install file from http:/www.browserforthebetter.com?ocid=ie8_sm_a and feed 8 people. 8 meals are donated to Feeding America for every complete download and install of Internet Explorer 8 from http:/www.browserforthebetter.com?ocid=ie8_sm_a.
Also, you may want to completely uninstall your current instance of IE 8 before trying a reinstall. Follow this guide to get it completely off your system -
