many thanks for your response and sorry for the confusion. My Yahoo Inbox is empty, that much is obvious. Please ignore my ignorance, but how do I "check via webmail" what, if anything, remains on the server?
Following my post last night I learnt a little more about Live Mail and and some of what my son did: he downloaded Live mail and tried to set-up a new account for himself on his laptop... but unfortunately (I have my doubts!) used my email address. Why I don't yet know. Checking the properties of the new account, on the Advanced tab, the box to leave a copy of the mail on the server was not ticked.
I'm far from being able to say I understand what's going on, but it does look as if the Yahoo server is empty.
Mike's suggestion of sending the mail back to myself is something I tried last night too... but although the Live Mail account appears to be able to receive my mail, it refuses to send anything, returning an error: cannot connect to server, error code 0x800CCC0E. I think I'm using the correct server address (mail.btopenworld.com), SMTP, port 25 and I have SSL enabled.
Any further thoughts?
