Right click on the SD card in "Computer" and go to Properties. Then check in the Ready Boost tab what the story is. It will probably say that device does not have sufficient speed for YOUR system. The fact that it works on your friends PC does not imply that it will work on your system.
SD cards are not really suitable for ready boost. Even if the system accepts them, they will not give you a performance boost because they are too slow. Get a USB stick with a fast read/write speed (e.g. 20 MB/sec).
