Re: Blue Screen memory dump

Yes, I agree it should come in via Windows Updates, but SP1 has been out since February 2008. There must be some reason that your system has not installed it. I have found Internet Security packages and anti-virus products to be among the leading culprits.

Some Windows Updates have made it through as the GUI win32k.sys and the NT Kernel have been updated during 2009. Other Vista drivers show 2006, 7, 8 timestamps.

Check Windows Updates and see what is there - Microsoft Windows Update

If no SP1, I suggest that you do the following -

SP1 FAQ - Microsoft Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1) frequently asked questions

SP1 Readiness Tool - Description of the System Update Readiness Tool for Windows Vista, for Windows Server 2008, for Windows Server 2008 R2 Release Candidate, and for Windows 7 Release Candidate

If you do have an Internet Security Package, it should be removed using the product manufacturer's removal tool.

Run SFC - System File Checker - bring up an elevated cmd/DOS prompt -
START | type cmd.exe | right-click on cmd.exe | Run as Admin | type sfc /scannow
- re-boot when complete to allow repair of files that cannot be done while system running.

Run the Vista Cleaning Manager Utility -
START | cleanmgr tuneup - Check the following boxes:
- Temp Setup Files
- Downloaded Program Files
- Temp Internet Files
- Recycle Bin
- System error memory dump files (NOT the next line - minidump files)
- Temp Files
- Temp Windows Installation Files
Defrag the hard drive - Auslogics - Download Auslogics Disk Defrag

Check Windows Updates again for SP1 - Microsoft Windows Update

Vista SP2 is now out and SP1 is a prerequisite.
