Huh, I wish I had tried that before un-checking View by Conversation, oh well. While looking at Show or Hide, I noticed two instances of 'Copy of Show all messages' [one now removed] which happened once before, but last time one of them was checked, not this time. Don't understand what that is even for, I don't remember if it had any obvious effect and may have been the beta.

The question is why it quit working and why un-checking either of those would fix it?

Don't think so, another sync All Messages seems to have worked this time, still kinda weird though. Of course, while I was doing all this, the automatic sync was still happening and sometimes failing, maybe because of my interference.
