There is still better ways than just disabling. Besides, that wont fix his problem.
Something was corrupted during the 3-4 day period he left it sleeping.
Leaving a computer on stand by/sleep for a long period of time will cause it run slower when taken out of stand by/sleep and can screw up active programs in the process.
You should take a look at the event viewer first in administrative tools.
