Hi Raas, i am a vista user too and tried your suggestion on the cmd line
and it worked just great. seems to be fine now and stops the computer
hanging on startup too! thanks for your help.

I received information through another source that directed me to use

Start > run > type 'cmd' > then run the command 'net use y /d'
then reboot.
It works! the 'y' in the command is the drive letter, could be
anything
you have on your computer that you want to remove.
