*.bat and *.cmd files are interpreted by the programs that the extensions are
connected with. Usually this is cmd.exe (command.com on older versions of
Windows). PowerShell does not interpret them, it starts the connected program
in a new separate process. Input/ouput are only redirected to the same
console window.
