It could be the device description is not in Vista. I had a
similar problem with an external USB floppy in Win x64. The
floppy works fine in XP 32-bit, but the description is not
in the usbstor.inf file in Win x64. It was confirmed by a
Msft employee that it was not included in the Win x64 file,
but no one ever gave a reason.
