it was suggested to me for my 3810 to
UNPACK the drivers but do not install them.
use the Device Manager Update Driver function and point to the location
where you unpacked the files.
when done, reboot and it should install the scanner drivers automatically.
did for me.

Thanks I might try it that way. I still have to find an answer about turning
off the compatibility message should it pop up. Anyone got any ideas how to
disable the compatibility wizard on Vista?
