Start Regedit.exe and navigate to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.DLL
Backup the branch by exporting to a REG file
Look for the sub-key named "UserChoice", and if it's present, right-click on the "UserChoice" branch and delete it.
Close Regedit.exe
The "Open with" association is now undone.
Reboot to see if the icons for DLL files are reset.
