I got a D-Link Wireless G ADSL2/2+ Router, to attach to my new Packard Bell
SW51-BO12 laptop with Vista, using my Virgin Broadband connection (the old
Speedtouch adaptor would not work at all). Upon plugging everything in and
trying it out, I could not get any of the LAN lights to come up. After
calling various helplines (including D-Link themselves, who are useless) I
took it back to the store where they replaced it with another. The same
problem happened, exactly (and I checked the Ethernet cable and so on). In
the end I took this back as well, and replaced it with the (slightly more
expensive) Belkin Wireless G+ Mimo Modem Router, which worked perfectly from
the beginning. It's possible there may be some problem with D-Link and Vista
and/or D-Link and Packard-Bell laptops. Anyhow, I'd be wary about getting a
D-Link Router (though they seem the cheapest) for this reason.
