Since you are sending from a Verizon account
(how are things in Baltimore, MD?), I assume the news server
in question is news.verizon.net, and your account setup should
look similar to this one:
http://www.dslreports.com/faq/vz/7.2_Newsgroup
Notice that the account name is just the username part, unlike some
ISPs which require the complete email address
user@ISP.com .
If you've done all of that correctly, I'm fresh out of ideas.
