Hi Micha,
Too bad you are facing problems with this. From the descriptions, it
is not clear what is going wrong here. Is it possible for you to share
out/post your code used for metadata handling and your schema types and the
steps you used for registering the metadata handlers?

As a side note, We are changing/simplifying the metadata extraction
significantly in Beta 2 and aligning it more closely with the windows desktop
search mechanism to utilize windows standard interfaces for extracting
metadata from filestreams and will also provide some declarative mapping
facilities for extracting metadata from schematized WinFS types. Hopefully
that will reduce some of the metadta extraction complexities.
