Could be a number of things. It may be defragging your drive in the
background, collecting performance information (eg for the reports you see
in 'Reliability and Performance Monitor'), or Windows Defender running a
spyware scan....

When Windows notices that your computer is idle, then it takes the
opportunity to run a few background tasks for general housekeeping etc.
