Can't give you any help about the file sharing stuff, as you've read before.
However, about the printer sharing: perhaps I don't understand your network
configuration, but don't you need the printer drivers installed on ALL
computers that use/share a printer?? I have a small home network, works
great for printer sharing, but both computers must have the driver for the
shared printer installed.
