Re: Vista asking for password on XP By default, Windows Vista does not allow access to shared folders from
accounts that have no password. This is to protect you from internet-based
attacks that frequently scan computers looking for empty passwords and
taking over such machines.

Now, if you have a GOOD firewall running, you may want to take this shortcut
to allow your other computer to browse your Vista machine without entering a
password.
