Tony,
You should be able to set that globally.

Open up a folder and set the display the way you like it. Then hit Tools ->
Folder Options. Select the "View" tab.

Scroll down the list and make sure "Remember each folders view settings" is
unchecked, then click the "Apply to Folders" - it should make it do what you
want. I keep saying "should" because I've noticed that sometimes if you
change a folder display temporarily, it changes everything so you may have
to reset them occasionally.

Note also that you may have to do this for different types of folders. I've
noticed that Vista seems to treat folders with pictures and music separately
so it may need them set as well.
