marty, you are my hero. lol. i'm also using a Realtek card, so i rolled
back the driver like you suggested, and it looks like the problem may be
resolved. i'm going to restart and everything and make sure. i'm so happy
something finally worked.
Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC, and i rolled back to driver
number 5.640.630.2006 from 6/21/2006.
