Without more details from you, it's impossible to be specific of course.
That said, a lot of people have found that this issue is caused by video
drivers. I would start by updating those - if any are available - as
well as any other driver updates. One thing to ask yourself is The First
Question Of Troubleshooting: what changed between the time things worked
and the time they didn't? IOW, if things were fine before - what is
different now? If you updated drivers and now get the issue, try rolling
them back. Here is general information about drivers:

Never get drivers from Windows Update. Get them from:

1. The device mftr.'s website; OR
2. The motherboard mftr.'s website if hardware is onboard; OR
3. The OEM's website for your specific machine if you have an OEM
computer (HP, Dell, Sony, etc.).

Read the installation instructions on the website where you get the drivers.

To find out what hardware is in your computer:

1. Read any documentation you got when you bought the computer.
2. If the computer is OEM, go to the OEM's website for your specific
model machine and look at the specs (you'll be there to get the drivers
anyway)
3. Download, install and run a free system inventory program like Belarc
Advisor. The older Aida32 is good for this, too although it might not
work on Vista.

If you have installed drivers from Windows Update, you can roll them back:

Geek - http://tinyurl.com/346lox

Another thing to check is whether your OEM/motherboard mftr. has any
BIOS updates. There were quite a few posts last week about problems with
Asus laptops being solved by a BIOS update.

Hope this helps to at least get you started with your troubleshooting.
