Re: Lost restore points

There are workarounds that are well known. Bit Locker--if Bit Locker is in
your Vista edition is one way to protect the Vista restore points. I have
seen some others mentioned on this group and the setup group if you search
for them.

I know John Barnett has in the past advocated using Tweak UI as an
alternative to Bit Locker encryption, but several sites have posted that
doesn't work.

MSFT has also confirmed that Tweak UI won't do it.

John's article is here:
http://vistasupport.mvps.org/prevent...windows_xp.htm

Bert Kinney's article and methods with 3rd party is here:
http://bertk.mvps.org/html/dualboot.html

Some people have used Acronis 10 or Boot Magic to hide the Vista restore
points.

Others have done this:

Start->run->gpedit.msc-->user configuration > Administrative Templates >
windows components > windows explorer > hide these specified drives in My
Computer

or

Note also that in that section of gpedit.msc there's a "Prevent access to
drives from My Computer," which looks like an even stronger option compared
to "hide these specified drives in My Computer

or

perhaps assigning a drive letter to your Vista partition might work when you
want to boot to XP. Administrative tools -> Computer Management -> Disk
Management, and remove drive letter assignment for the Vista partition?
