isn't working. I even tried chaning themes along with that as one site
suggested, no dice.

I can live this of course since it works fine, but any idea on how to get
the 'special' icon back. Could I be missing something in the desktop.ini
trick?

Hi Romanom,

Try this,

1. Open Start Menu.
2. In white line (Start Search) area, type "shell:downloads" (no quotes) and press Enter.

Check and see if it is back. If not, then you can make a new shortcut from the Open Window and copy it back to your personal folders again. Look at this section "How to Make a Shortcut of the Open Location" at this link for how to do it.
