I had the same problem with a photosmart 2575 and x32 system. A link in HP forums mentioned that the printer un-install does not remove all of the directories, specifically the Digital Imaging directory within the HP directory. I un-installed the printer and then deleted the Digital Imaging directory, reloaded the printer drivers and it worked. I think that info on HP printers, as they are first detected, are stored within this directory and the Solution Center points to the old printer footprint. If all of this is correct, then this seems to be an HP problem. The digital imaging directory within my system is located at C:\Programs\Hp\Digital Imaging.
