If the drives are mapped, they will work fine even if you are not
connected to the network, as when vista boots it will just say that it
cannot connect to all network drives, (Same as XP)

I think the issue is that you are looking at the wrong problem, the
problem is vista taking 3X as long to boot when disconnected from the
network not how the network is mapped.

Vince, this still won't work as the shortcut has to be created from
something (Ie. your mapped Drive)

Take a look at the msconfig and see if there is something that could be
causing this slow down when attempting to connect to the network.

my vista Business laptop has 8 Networked drives on it and I regularly
boot at home while disconnected from the network and it works find
