Winmail is slow to start and slow to open a new window when writing a new mail

I use to use Outlook 2000 on XP and it worked well, but Outlook 2000 doesn't
work on Vista so I have been trying Winmail.

I can do most things with Winmail, but why is it so slow starting up (about
15 seconds) and the same when I want to write a new mail?

I am tempted to move to Thunderbird that starts up immediately (and offers
tags).. Is it because I have hundreds and hundreds of stored mail, or a
problem with Winmail and Vista?

Any help would be appreciated.
