I had the same problem with HP L7580, HP help was no HELP.
I then did a manual uninstall with the batch utility in HP CD under utils

Then do a reinstall as per procedure it works. In case the installation
still stalls do a reboot. Pls note you should be logged in as Administatror
other wise it does not work.
It seems that the HP uninstaller leaves some entries that interfere with the
new installation
You are playing with the registry do take a back up. At your own risk.
