If you're home or on a network you trust, then private is the setting you want, otherwise use public.

You mentioned your router before, although its highly unlikely, visit your manufacturer's website and see if there is a firmware update for your router. Although I doubt that this is the problem, nothing really supprises me anymore.

Oh, by the way, check to see if your IP address corresponds to your router. (i.e. 192.168.x.x) if its not in this range or similar, then there could be a router problem.
