how can I disable this without removing the restore point functionality?

In other words I want Vista to behave like XP did, where you had restore
points but not old versions of files..

thanks
Hi Windows 7 M1,

You can disable one of the other Services other than "Volume Shadow Copy" in this tutorial to stop the Previous Versions from working. You cannot stop them from being created and stored without disabling System Restore to.

Previous Versions - Shadow Copy

You can also adjust how much space is used on your hard drive for the restore points (System Restore) and Previous Versions (Shadow Copy).

System Restore - disk space
