how can I disable this without removing the restore point functionality?
In other words I want Vista to behave like XP did, where you had restore
points but not old versions of files..
thanks
I'm not really sure if you'll want to disable Shadow Copies.
It's sort of like a souped-up "Recycle Bin" that works even when you don't delete files. Have you ever edited and saved a Word document, or saved some other file when you didn't really want to? Normally that type of screw-up would mean the original file that you wanted to keep is gone. Shadow Copies is the perfect means with which to recover these files, and can in some instances when used on an entire folder, recover files that you deleted and then emptied from the Recycle Bin.
Many people feel that they are "experienced enough" to not make such a blunder. But trust me - The next time you're in a hurry, or are under pressure to complete a specific task, you can and will make mistakes that will leave you wishing you had Shadow Copies enabled to help you recover.
Just my two-cents worth...
