Dude, the XBox 360 control pad is probably the BEST gamepad for Vista now.

Seriously if you have a wired 360 controller just plug it into Vista and
you're good to go, if you have a Wireless 360 pad you have to buy a little
"dongle" that lets you use the wireless controllers with Windows.

Your other choice might be a Logitech pad, funny thing is the 360 pad is
based off the most recent logitech wireless design.
As for your sidewinder USB... Can't see why the controller wouldn't just
work in Vista. It's a Microsoft controller, it's not very old, Vista should
have the drivers already for it. What happens when you plug in the device?
Do you get anything? If you go to Gaming Controllers in the control panel
does anything show up for the controller?
