That is an excellent guide you linked to - and is the method for creating icons that I used to use. However - icons for shortcuts created from favourites are not stable - even if the shortcut is made read only.
The only icons on my computer that are stable are those that link to a file on my hard drive.

This is the batch file titled
Vista64 Forum.bat I created with notepad
"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IExplore.exe" "http://www.vistax64.com/"
The quotation marks are essential.
The first pair enclose the route to your Iexplorer.exe file
The second pair are an exact copy of the URL address as it appears in your browser.
There must be one space between each pair.

All my batch files are stored in a folder on my hard drive.
