It can be tricky, that's why I went with the Comodo Firewall. It sets itself up automatically. All you have to do is approve or block programs when they try to come in or out of the firewall, than Comodo will remember it so you do not have to mess with that program again. Plus, it does a better job than Windows Firewall IMO.
