All other posts mention to run IE7 without add-ons, and how to manage add-ons. You should follow this advice. I would not be surprised if the problem add-on is Apple Quicktime - I experienced the same problems as you have until I disabled and removed this add-on. I almost have the idea that Apple have deliberately destabilized the Quicktime add-on to make people think that Vista is rubbish...
