My guess would be your problem started about the time that you installed your registry cleaner - those things cause more problems than they solve.
The thing to remember is that there is nothing a "registry cleaner" can do that you cannot do yourself using built-in Windows utilities, such as RegEdit. And if the thought of editing the registry is a frightening one, then you have even more reason to NOT use a "registry cleaner".
