50-C ( 122-F ) seems fine. I have a C2D e6600 and it idles at 50-C.
A lot of times it's the amount of Thermal Paste ( or Pad ) and how the
Heat Spreader contacts the fan assembly that makes a big difference.
Not sure why your setup has XP higher, generally I've always seen a
higher CPU reading using Vista. The other factor is the Nanometer
spacing of the CPUs. I think Intel is at 45-nm and AMD is still using
a wider spacing ( 65-nm ) in it's chip fabrication.
