Re: Help! No sound and unable to update driver since SP1

I was hoping SP1 would solve a lot of issues I've been having (see related link below)

WMC and WMP11 keep crashing

Now it seems a new (possibly related?) issue has surfaced. Since installing SP1 I have no sound at all.

In device manager under sound there is a PnP audio device listed but this is wrong, it should be the onboard audio (I believe it used to say CMedia...something). It has an exclamation mark and won't update the driver.

I have found MANY copies of the same solution on the net (uninstall device, scan for hardware changes, reinstall driver) Fix for Sound Missing or No Sound after Vista SP1 install | Windows Reference

BUT....it won't install the driver. I tried downloading the driver from my mobo manufacturer's site but I keep getting a failed install.

Can anyone help please? I really, really don't want to have to format again. Thank you

From reading your post, you've found the same solutions to the issue that I've found. So my guess is that something else is in play here. My advice would be to have the gurus at Microsoft kick this one around and find a solution. They are giving everyone free tech support for SP1. Here's the link: https://support.microsoft.com/oas/de...4&gprid=500921

You also mentioned that the driver won't install. Is there any error message being generated when this happens?

Hopefully a solution can be found soon.
