No, Backup will always compress the backed up data to zip files on the
destination drive.
Yes, you can backup to CD or DVD. RW is problematic for some people. Erased
discs tend to give backup fits in OneCare.
You can restore a single file from within the custom restore option and if you
wish, you can even extract files from the backup zip files. Larger files are
split, so you'd need to rejoin them with a 3rd party utility.
