I think you are confusing the OneCare icon and the Windows Automatic Updates
notification. The OneCare icon loks like a squashed circle and is green, yellow,
or red. It will never give you a percent download. The AU icon in a sheild (in
XP) and when it is downloading, it will tell you the percent complete. There is
a red shield icon that will appear if there is a problem with the Windows
Security Center, but it doesn't have anything to do with AU. It will warn you if
there is a problem with security center monitored items.
