I store mine on the tape in DV-AVI format. Small, compact and not compressed.

Like vinyl record players, I have no doubt there will be external Mini-DV players that hook up to the PC (other than your camcorder)

Other than that I would recommend at least DVD compatable Mpeg 2 files and possibly stored as data files.

When I recently had some old 8mm family film digitised I ask then to store it as a data file on DVD.

For longer storage I would recommend an archival quality DVD for the more serious storage.

My aim is to have more external storage hard drives...it seems reletively cheep and secure these days
